Week 9 - Juxtaposition

This week Mr.Radzi give us some in class exercise about juxtapositon.

First, we'll be given 2 groups of number, and then choose 3 number that we like.

I have chosen number 11, 30 and 67.
So now combine the two number side by side.
11 = flower, water
30 = Ice, head
67 = duck, tree

Then we have to create a sentence by using the combine words and sketch it out.

After that, combine the words we have chosen to become a totally new word and sketch it out. Example: flowerwater, icehead and ducktree.

Week 8 - Juxtaposition 2

This week lecturer is continue from last week lecture. 'Analogy'
Analogy is making two objects which have no connection between to explain something about. There are 2 types of analogy:
-Metaphor. Which 2 different things are linked by some similarity. Comparison that are obvious not consider as a metaphor. Different ideas are connect in an imaginative way. Not using as/like. For example: Love is a present, you will never know what is inside.
-Simile. Using as/like. Example: Life is like a candle, it will ended in one day.

Categories of analogies:
- Logical analogy. Use similarities in design, function or structure to connect back to the object. Example comparison of the whale and submarine, where both can dive to great depth but still need surface for air.

-Affective analogy. Emotional resemblance. Most frequently used in conversation to emphasis certain points. For example: He is like a pig (because he is lazy).

Here are some advertisement by using analogy.

Angel/Demon

Week 7 - Juxtaposition

In my personal reflection. Juxtaposition is placing two variable side by side in order to get comparison. Usually turning something familiar to something not so familiar or vice-versa. Juxtaposition(literary), with contrast, two objects or texts oppose each other. Contrast is a relationship between two discourse segments. Example: It's raining, but I am not taking an umbrella. Juxtaposition also can apply in emotion, abstract concepts or character.

The 'Lost' season 1 was used in the lecturer for juxtaposition. For example: Chaos/Calm, East/West and so on.
